Research at the School of Social Work in Lund covers a broad area of social sciences connected to the practice of social work. The research focuses on issues of social problems, their definitions, origin, causes and solutions; the circumstances and living conditions of vulnerable groups and individuals and society’s interventions.
Research at the School of Social Work is particularly strong in the
following fields: welfare and social policy, child welfare, the elderly
and the aging process, social problems, human services organisations,
civil society and the welfare professions. The research is often
comparative in character, examining systems in different countries or
municipalities. The department also participates in the Faculty of
Social Sciences’ strategic investment in welfare research. For a more
detailed presentation of the research groups and research projects see
the links on the left. Presentations
of the researchers/teachers are found here
The department’s research was deemed excellent in several respects in the RQ08 external evaluation, for example with regard to the social relevance of the research, the productivity of the researchers and their well-developed international research contacts. According to the assessors, the research at the School of Social Work in Lund is characterised by its broad approach:
”[The research]…is not only on social work practices and interventions, but also on more general questions regarding social policy and social problems in society in general.” (RQ08 Evaluation, p. 162)
