The EU has since the turn of the millennium in many ways encouraged civil society mobilization, organization and participation, through funding and opportnities for dialogue. This book examines the patterns of conflict and cooperation, the dynamics between new actors and established, and the resources that provide the status and prestige among civil society actors. The book is based on new empirical studies, with chapters on the organization of civil society actors in social policy, anti-discrimination, development, and sections that focus on the new European Citizens' Initiative and the relationships between the actors involved in this unique participatory process.
