Nordharm first retreat in Lund
NEWS ON NORDHARM
The NORDHARM team gathered in Lund for a three‑day retreat that brought together all project members, January 14-16 2026.
The meeting offered space for reflection, collaborative planning, and deeper conversations about the diverse expertise within the group. Together, the researchers outlined the research focus and practical steps for the coming year.
Research plans for 2026
A major part of the work in 2026 will involve mapping current challenges, policies, and everyday practices in home care and residential care across the four participating countries. Key questions include:
- How common is it for care providers to meet older adults with substance dependence?
- In what ways does this influence the ability to provide high‑quality care?
- What alcohol‑related policies are in place—both general guidelines and those applied in complex situations?
During the retreat, the researchers reviewed proposed interview guides and discussed recruitment strategies for 20 home care units and 20 residential care facilities in each country.
Another strand of research will explore national policies related to alcohol and substance use among older adults, with a focus on how these policies intersect with ageing and long‑term care. The first step will be to identify key documents and policy frameworks in each country.
The retreat also featured a presentation by expert panel member Torkel Richert, who shared insights on harm reduction, providing a valuable foundation for the work ahead.
