Sara Helmersson has defended her thesis Between Sisterhood and Treatment - Renegotiations in a Changed Support Field for Abused Women.

The thesis sheds light on two types of support services for abused women in Sweden: voluntary women's shelters and specialised public sector units for people with experience of violence in intimate relationships. Sara Helmersson’s findings show that the question of violence against women has been institutionalised in Swedish policies and that two dominating understandings are present: a gender power perspective and a relational perspective.
