PhD students organise an international workshop

Carolin Schütze and Erin Kennedy and Cynthia Phiri, PhD students at the School of Social Work, have organised an international PhD workshop in Copenhagen. The workshop covered emerging themes in social work research. The PhD workshop was connected to this year’s Nordic FORSA/NOUSA conference.

PhD students from Sweden, Norway, Iceland and the USA participated in the workshop were the main focus was to discuss and exchange research ideas with fellow students and resarchers. During the workshop, the PhD students got an opportunity to present their research in sub-thematic groups. They also received in-depth feedback from their peers as well as senior researchers.

The workshop had various topics. Some of the topics were about green social work, social work and issues related to migration and racism. Other topics were about management and social work, as well as decision-making processes in social work.

During the workshop, the PhD students and the researchers also had a panel discussion on the topic ‘emerging themes in social work research’. According to one of the organisers, Carolin Schütze, the workshop revealed that, “we need to strengthen cross-disciplinary work, and learn more about indigenous social work.”

Professor Håkan Johansson and Associate Professor Norma Montesino from the School of Social Work also participated in the workshop.
