My research concerns activation, municipal labour market policies and social assistance. I am interested in government interventions dealing with poverty and unemployment, particularly in regard to issues of recognition, social inclusion and dignity.
In my thesis "Crumbs from the Rich Man's Table? Municipal Labour Market Policies and Recognition of Welfare Recipients in Sweden", I showed how unemployed welfare recipients participating in municipal activation programmes are subjected to a partial, or marginal, recognition. Although they receive financial benefits, interpersonal support and partial esteem, they are not fully included in society, experiencing perpetual poverty, unemployment and misrecognition. While also studying a project/intervention aiming to improve welfare services, I discuss the limited capacity of municipalities to fully recognise welfare recipients as full members of society.
I am currently teaching on courses covering a broad range of topics in the social work programme, yet my main teaching experience lies in the area of social policy.
