New certificate to strengthen international profile

The School of Social Work has launched a new Certificate of International Merits (CIM), a credential to be issued alongside the degree. This is a new opportunity for students to summarise and present their international merits, for example to potential employers. It is also a way to encourage students to take part in more international activities.

“The CIM is a great way for students to compile and show off their international merits. The CIM will contribute towards students developing their intercultural understanding and enable them to take advantage of their international experiences. We also hope that the CIM will make them more prepared to take on global issues in the workplace as they begin their professional careers”, said Helene Lahti Edmark and Ulrika Reichert, responsible for the project at the School of Social Work.

The CIM is a certificate that details the international activities that a student has participated in during his or her years at the department. The activities can be abroad or in Sweden, and can vary in length and scope. For example, a student may participate in an international conference, act as a mentor for an exchange student or conduct part of their studies at a university abroad.

The School of Social Work is the first department at the Faculty of Social Sciences to introduce the CIM. After the pilot project, the CIM will gradually be implemented at other departments within the faculty.

The CIM has been developed in consultation with the Faculty of Medicine, the first faculty at the university to launch the certificate.

For questions about the CIM, please contact Ulrika Reichert, internaitonal coordinator.
